Autumn, not “fall” (for my friends north of the equator)
Here in the northern hemisphere (Italy to be precise), the chestnuts are falling to the ground, the leaves are about to change to brilliant colors, the last of the summer vegetables are about to be harvested...
We pulled out the blanket last night; it is dark already by 7,30, and there is frost on the grass in the morning… Autumn (not fall) is arriving! We are finally liberated! from
the oppressive heat, mosquitos
and the humidity of summer. We can breathe again… be outside… walk without sweating… it is so much easier to put on a jacket against the cold than to find a way to escape the heat.
Autumn has always been my favorite season. There is a sweet melancholy in the warm afternoon air, in the crisp chill nights. I imagine the world beginning to turn into itself… It seems the beginning of a time for reflection and introspection… seeds and nuts fall from trees to gather energy to bring new life when spring comes… It is a time for exuberant inner growth.
And for my friends south of the equator.
As I close my window against the new chill in the air, I can feel you in the southern hemisphere opening yours to the new warmth of spring (my second favorite season). You are also experiencing release… release from the cold and rains (snow?) of winter. Spring! A season for exuberant growth all around us!
Join my celebration of my favorite season… let the leaves fly!/… let that seed sprout! Throughout the fall (spring), I am offering one pro-bono, 30-minute conversation per person to explore an accomplishment you would like to move forward this fall/spring. Join me in celebrating growth! Where would you like to be, or what would you like to do before the end of the year?
Feel free to share this post and my website!
